The Shelby and Southern Entrance

The Shelby and Southern Entrance, a public art installation created in May 2018, is meant to draw public attention to the corner as an entrance to Garfield Park. Made out of glow in the dark rope, the installation brings notice to the corner in the day and night. This small investment welcomes neighbors and strangers of Garfield Park into the public space. This site was also the location for Gartin’s final performance for the group’s Movement Practicum. Gartin used her body to rewrite the letters and instructed her audience to spell out the letters of the installation together before entering the park.
